The suspension lifts Mon, Nov 2. Until then: no residential burning, even on a permissive burn day. CAL FIRE Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit has formally canceled the burn permit suspension. Holders of current, valid residential and agriculture burn permits may resume burning on permissive burn days. Agriculture burns must be inspected by CAL FIRE before ignition until the end of peak fire season.
A suspension overrides everything else on this page — no residential burning while it is in effect, even on a permissive burn day.
Is today a permissive burn day? The recorded burn line has the day's call: (707) 565-2876.
The burn suspension is in effect, so the district's daily call doesn't matter yet. Once it lifts, call the morning you plan to burn.
Sun, Nov 1: Northern Section — Burn. Tomorrow (Mon, Nov 2): Burn.
BAAQMD declares burn days by section; Sonoma County is its Northern Section. The CAL FIRE suspension (above) overrides a burn day here too.

Before you burn — the checklist
All of it, every time. A permissive burn day is an air-quality call, not a fire-safety call — never burn when conditions are unsafe.
- Permits in hand. An air district burn permit is required year-round (campfires excepted). In the State Responsibility Area you also need a free CAL FIRE permit (burnpermit.fire.ca.gov) from May 1 until fire season ends.
- Check the day. North Sonoma district: call (707) 565-2876. Bay Area district: the card above, or 1-800-792-0787. No burning on a No Burn Day.
- Notify dispatch. Report your burn to REDCOM, the county dispatch center, at (707) 565-1700 on the day you burn.
- Pile: no larger than 4 ft across and 4 ft tall (add material as it burns down). Clear 10 ft down to bare soil around it.
- Hours (north district): 10 AM – 4 PM, October–April · 6 AM – 12 PM, May–September. Bay Area district: no ignition before 10 AM, and stop adding fuel 2 hours before sunset.
- Material: only dry, natural vegetation grown on your own property. No trash, no treated or painted wood. Burn barrels are always prohibited under state law.
- On site: an adult attends the fire at all times, with a shovel and a water source within reach, until the fire is dead out.
- Weather wins. Never burn on windy days or during a Red Flag Warning, and be ready to put the fire out if conditions change.
Which air district am I in?
Two air districts split Sonoma County, and the boundary does not follow roads. The north district has an address lookup on its home page — check your address there if you're near the line.
